The Bushfire Protect™ System

Developed over the past eight years in consultation with bush fire protection design group - members include CSIRO, state fire services and fire engineers, Bushfire Protect™ is the first fully automated sprinkler system on the market. This system has been specifically designed to combat ember attack by completely dousing the structure with water. Bushfire Protect™ introduces a new level of sophistication to solutions available for property owners in bushfire prone areas. You may want to protect your permanent or holiday home, your business premises or community service infrastructure. Correctly installed and maintained, Bushfire Protect™ can effectively guard any building regardless of shape or size against ember attack. We can install a solution specifically tailored to meet your individual needs and budget. Already the advanced features of this unique field-proven system are helping to protect some 250 buildings in Australia.

Power and water independence

During bushfires electricity and water are often the first services to fail. That is why every Bushfire Protect™ installation is designed to operate independent of externally supplied electricity or water. In the event that power and water services are lost, the system will continue to pump water to the sprinklers at the necessary pressure. Bushfire Protect™ uses a battery or fuel-powered pump to remove the need for mains power. Bushfire Protect™ uses its own dedicated steel rainwater tank as a water source. Other large water sources, such as a swimming pool, will protect the building for an extended period. If you are required to follow mandatory evacuation orders, the system's ability to work in your absence not only reduces the risk of fire damage, it can also buy precious time for Fire Authorities to arrive.

Intelligent auto start

The Bushfire Protect™ system employs an automatic start feature requiring no human intervention. The system uses sensors that detect smoke and determine the risk of ember and flame attack. Because the threat invariably arrives ahead of the bushfire, smoke will initially activate sprinklers at the first sign of imminent danger and douse your entire building. The system runs in short intervals as the sensors continue to monitor the situation. The sprinklers pause automatically once the area has been sufficiently dampened. The sensors continue to monitor the situation, restarting if the need arises. This prevents your water storage running out before the fire front has moved away. If sensors detect a nearby fire, the system will switch to a continuous cycle for maximum protection. With adequate water storage, Bushfire Protect™ can shield your building long enough for the danger to pass.

Internationally patented sprinkler design

Bushfire Protect™ sprinkler heads are made of solid brass. Each one is fully adjustable and designed to spray water in a highly-effective pattern. Water is delivered exactly where it is needed including gutters, verandas, deck, stairways and under eaves. The sprinkler heads produce a 'heavy droplet' spray, rather than a fine mist which can be blown away by the high winds that accompany bushfires. Each individual sprinkler head has a spray pattern which covers a broad area. Units can be spaced at wide intervals along the guttering, lowering the number and overall cost needed to completely envelop your building's exterior in a protective blanket of water.

Advanced fire suppressant technology

BlazeTamer™ is a non-toxic and environmentally friendly fire retardant which is exclusive to Bushfire Protect™. The system automatically mixes a dose of retardant into the water at the pump on demand.

This CSIRO-tested fire suppressant increases the cooling capacity of water, protecting the building from radiant heat. Another important feature is its ability to reduce the volume of water required to extinguish embers or flames.
